Immigration Letter

Your task for this assignment is to compose from the point of view of a new immigrant to Canada. The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate the immigrantion expierence. You will compose a letter from the point of view of either a:
  • French Fur trader first settling Canada
  • A Loyalist who fled the Wars in America to move to Canada
  • A black slave fleeing for freedom through the Underground Railroad
  • An Irish migrant aboard a ship on their way to Canada during the "Great Migration" 
  • A farmer looking to settle the West from one of the European cultural groups (ex. Ukranians)
  • A Chinese immigrant that came to BC to help build the railroads and had to pay a tax to enter
  • A immigration officer looking to promote and recruit immigrants from desierd European areas
  • A American gold miner's expierence during the Yukon/Klondike Gold Rush
  • A Jewish or Indian Immigrant that was denied entry into Canada
Your letter must include the following:
  • At least one page typed, double spaced, size 12, times new roman font
  • Including facts and information from the course readings
    • ex. runaway slaves being chased by bounty hunters or Irish immigrants dying in the streets and on boats because of cholera
  • Must be a fictional charcter that is writing to a fictional family member or friend
  • The letter can be e-mailed to me or a printed copy can be submitted

Immigration Poster

In the middle of the 1800's the Canadian government was looking to settle on the lands in the West. The Canadian government activley recruited desirable migrants to work the vast praire lands. Your task will be to create your very own immigration poster. You will create a poster/adverstiment encouraging people to move to Western Canada. Find your own images and create your own headlines that headlines convincing people to move West!
